Week 3 (Speacial: What is UGC?)
Welcome! If you don't know already, my name is Julia and I'm a teenage UGC Creator. Before we get started I must tell you, this week's blog is a very special one! And as much as I would love to tell you guys everything about my week, I recently realized that I haven't yet explained what exactly UGC is. So today, I will be taking you guys on a tour of what UGC is and what a UGC Creator does.
Have you ever seen a TikTok of a HUGE influencer promoting a brand? Probably. And did that video motivate you to buy the product? Probably not. And it's not because the influencer is doing anything wrong, it's because everyone knows that the influencer is being paid big bucks to promote that brand. That's where UGC comes in. Think of UGC as online word to mouth or influencing without the influencer. 'User Generated Content' is authentic, original and relatable content made by regular people to influence other regular people. Most of the time, these content come in forms of TikTok videos or Instagram Reels.
As an UGC creator, it is our job to create content we think will resonate with our brand's target audience. The most important part (and perhaps the hardest part) is that the content we create sound genuine and not ad-like. Because if our content sounds too ad-like, the viewer will automatically realize it's an ad and scroll. You might be thinking "Wow! UGC sounds like such an easy and fun way to make money, all while getting free products!", and to be honest, I think that's what all UGC creators thought at first (including me!). But I'll let you in on a secret- It's actually really hard and time consuming!
Don't believe me? Try it out for yourself! Take a random object and record yourself trying to sell that object WITHOUT sounding like your trying to sell that object. Not as easy as you thought huh? On top of that, as a UGC creator, you have to spend HOURS researching and pitching to brands- and they might not even respond! For example, about every 100 brands I pitch to, I only get around 2 gifted collaborations! But of course, it's different for everyone.
What I'm trying to get at here is that being a UGC creator is not easy. In fact being anything really is not easy. But if you think you can do it, and your willing to put in the time and effort to succeed, I say- go for it and as long as you don't give up, you will succeed!
My goals for next week are:
- Get 3 brand deals!
- Keep working on time management :)
- Enjoy the process and don't forget to take breaks!
So yeah! This is how my week as a UGC Creator went. Keep smiling and I'll see you next week!
